In this web campaign for Läkare Utan Gränser (the Swedish division of Doctors Without Borders) we helped Saatchi & Saatchi pretending to spread digital malaria in Sweden to raise the awareness about the real disease.

The location of each person visiting the website is registered and the spreading of the awareness / malaria is shown on the map. The visitors are welcomed by a not very reassuring message notifying them that they have got malaria and they should proceed if they want to cure themselves or someone else by making a donation. Donations can be also made by sending an SMS to a short number.

Banners and ads on the main swedish newspapers provided the first critical mass of users during the first days of the campaign. To spread the message on, we integrated Facebook and Twitter, and produced a badge that users can add to their own blog.

Just on the first day we had 84000 visits, of which 75000 unique. The infection is spreading.
